The Child Cold

Earlier this week, Scary Mommy did a post about her husband who has a cold. He not only has a cold but a Man Cold.

Meaning that when a man gets a cold, life as we know it stops, he needs someone to take care of him and pretty much, the world as we know it is going to end. Unlike when a woman gets a cold, she just carries on as normal.

Well since Jeff and I have triplets and another young child, neither one of us really get the luxury of lounging around when sick so I have not really experienced this ‘man cold‘ phenomenon that Scary Mommy wrote of.

Until that is, when Jake got sick.

I am here to tell you that this ‘man cold‘ phenomenon is alive and well in this house and apparently starts a at very young age.

I apologize to his future wife.

Also, I have no idea where he gets this flair for the dramatic.

No idea at all. ;)

  2. It is really rather cute on a young child vs. a grown man. Especially the “concentrating” part.
And you are so nice………I really believed your sympathy. Calling you next time I am sick. (Reason number 1 to make sure I never get your number. Reason 2…..I am a total stranger!

  3. Tee hee! *Other* people’s sick kids are funny and cute. OBVIOUSLY that doesn’t work when it is my own sick kid.

I have said some of those same things to my drama queen when she gets sick – for real, she gets the Child Version of the Man Cold too, despite being female. (Oh and my hubby? TOTAL man cold-er when he gets sick; Jill’s post was RIGHT ON about that one.) I’ll ask my kid “So, do we need to go to the hospital, do you think, or will you survive?”

I’m glad he was willing to cowboy up and “concentrate” so he could watch the new movie. ;-)

  4. LOL!

His cough was awesome, and I love that he is willing to concentrate on the new movie. hehe.

  5. Oh, the drama!I think all men are just born that way.

  6. Love it! Right down to the “cousin trading”. Two boys of my own and it’s funny that they are always sicker than my two girls.

  7. But really, at that age, he’s so effin cute, you don’t mind indulging.
But when they’re big and hairy, a pillow over the head seems acceptable, yes?
I hope he’s feeling better soon so you can have, like 2 minutes to yourself…or is that, like a lot for the mother of triplets? Forgive if I’m overestimating, I only had one child at a time. You are superhuman in my eyes.

That is adorable…when it’s NOT your kid. Right?

My husband has hypochondria so every single time anyone in our house gets sick….so does he. Last week I had cramps and he did too.

  10. So cute. Love the bit about the hospital. If Maggie hurts her leg, she will tell us she “broke it, but I don’t need to go to the hospital.”
