I walked in to the kitchen and what I saw out the window made me stop in my tracts.
“What in the world is she doing?!” I said aloud even though I was alone in the house.
I walked closer to the window and looked out at my daughter.
“Oh baby girl, what are you doing?” I said, “Please be careful.”
I wanted to yell at her. I wanted to make her stop her. I want to make her come into the house so she could just sit and look pretty.
But what fun would that be?
I want to hang on tightly to my children so that they don’t get hurt. I don’t want anything to happen to them but that is not what life is about. Life is about (sometimes) jumping in feet first, taking a risk and seeing what you are able to do. Sure. sometimes you get hurt but learning to deal with that hurt is also part of life.
I took a deep breath, grabbed my camera, said a little prayer and watched my little girl who’s spirit for adventure often gets the best of her make the best out of having a backyard not covered in snow.
Besides, she was wearing a helmet.
Yup, thank goodness she was wearing a helmet.

If she’s got the the presence of mind to wear a helmet while trying to sled without snow, she is going to make the right decisions when she tries to sled on a plastic lunch tray in college!!

Ha, that’s awesome! I know that heart in your throat feeling though. Yay for helmets =)

Whew! Looks like fun, except for those nearby rocks. We wouldn’t have even put the helmet on when we were kids. It’s hard. I try to let mine be kids too. That’s what emergency rooms…and helmets are for. And prayers, and crossed fingers and toes.

Darling pictures! And I grapple with this too. Being overly cautious with my girls b/c I don’t want them to get hurt, but then I don’t want them to be pansies either. : ) We gotta let ‘em live a little. WIth a helmet!

Awwwww, that’s just precious. Too bad she’s not here we have a true blizzard goin’ on and plenty of snow to sled on.
Sometime ya just gotta let go and let their free spirits soar!
God bless ya and have a marvelous week sweetie!!!

I love her sense of adventure! Is she one of those kids wishing for snow every evening? It’s not working around here!
