Put it on Your Website

by Jen on March 2, 2012

I heard the laughter downstairs followed quickly by, “Mommy! Mommy! Come look at this.”

I set the dish in the dishwasher and started the walk downstairs but stopped.

“The camera,” I said to no one, “I should grab the camera.”

I just had this feeling that whatever waited for me downstairs would be cute and maybe be some good blog fodder because let’s face it my kid’s and their antics are the stars of this blog.

“Mommy,” Hayden said as I reached the bottom of the stairs, “Look what we made… a big pillow pile.”

I looked in the corner of the couch and saw a big pile of pillows, “Wow, that is nice. Did you use every single pillow in the house?”

The kids all laughed and danced around.

“Mommy, take a picture and put it on your website,” Hayden said over the sillies and laughter.

I couldn’t help but smile.

I let their joy and laughter wash over me. You can’t always count on children to show you joy in life no matter how small, no matter what from.

But wait, someone was missing.

“Where is Quinn?” I asked.

The kids all laughed even harder as suddenly Quinn burst out of the middle of the pillow pile.

This time I giggled right along with them as Quinn leapt forth and screamed, “BOO!”

“You guys are funny,” I said as I turned to walk back up stairs to continue the dishes. Then I felt the weight in my hand and it registered that I was holding something.

“Damn,” I mumbled under my breath, “I forgot to take a picture.”

They had wanted me to take pictures of this and I had wanted to take pictures. I had wanted to capture this moment.  Sure maybe it could have turned into a bog post but it also was just capturing them. My kids playing their favorite game of ‘pillow pile’. My kids being silly… just being kids.

“Hey, guys!” I called, “How about we do that again. You make a pile and then call me down and surprise me with someone jumping out?”

“Yeah!!!” the little three all screamed.

“But mommy,” Hayden began, “It won’t be a surprise because you know that someone is in there this time.”

Man, this boy is getting too smart for this own good.

“I know that I won’t be surprised like the first time but I will pretend,” I explained. “Besides, I forgot to take pictures of the first one and I wanted to do that so that I could put them on my website.”

Hayden ran up to me and hugged my waist and then called to this little brothers and sister, “Come on guys, bury me! And let’s surprise mommy again.”

The little kids all cheered and gathered up the pillows and I let out a breathy laugh.

Silly kids but I’d be lying if it didn’t make me happy that they want to be and even sometimes beg to be a part of my ‘website’.

Kids and pillows go together like peanut butter and jelly.

This is so cute — my kids always want their pictures up on my site too. Their favorite game is also “pillow pile.” Except they pile every pillow they can find into the middle of my living room floor and then they run and jump into it. If I’m not watching they jump off of the couch into the pile. That’s “extra fun.”

That is so cute! Kids do have fun with pillows and cushions– which is why my kids are freaking that I am going to get rid of our loveseat- it is our last couch with removable cushions. Guess I had better get some pictures fast :)

I love that they said, Take a picture and put it on your website. My kids say the same thing. So strange this new world we are living in. And they are just so cute. Gotta love those moments in life. It’s a blessing that we have all of this modern technology to capture it all.

So fun! There’s something about pillows that just attracts kids. Mine LOVE climbing on my bed and playing with the decorative pillows.

Adorable. I’m going to admit that it appears that I’m one of the only Mum’s on the planet who doesn’t have kids who play this game. Until tomorrow. They will start tomorrow.

So cute! Glad your kids want to be part of your blog. I often get, “mom, is this gonna be on your blog?” in a very sarcastic and bummed-out tone.

We have a play tent in the house and Maggie STILL wants to build pillow and blanket forts. We have one up right now to watch “The Empire Striks Back.”

Lanagan asks me all the time when I take a picture if I’m going to tweet it. ;) Pillow pile sounds like a great game – I think I need to start playing.

The best kid entertainment comes from playing with pillows. Or boxes.

So sweet! My kids are 11 and 13 and we still have a pillow pile in the basement. They just call it the Hobo Casino to add that edge of cool. :) Ellen
