I wasn’t nervous until I heard my name being called then I could feel the panic rising in my chest.
“Dear God, please don’t let me trip and fall on the stairs,” I silently prayed. “For once in my life let me have balance.”
Why did I choose to wear heels? Me and heels don’t get along on a good day now here I was about to walk upstairs onto the stage.
One step
Two steps
Three steps
Finally, I was in front of the podium.
I looked out and the stage lights blinded me from all the faces. I could feel my heart in my throat.
I took a deep breath and looked down at my words.
They were familiar and oddly comforting.
I began, the first couple of words getting all tangled.
Dammit
But then something happened, I heard giggles.
I continued then there was laughter… out loud laughter.
I was hooked.
Hearing people laughing at my words, giggle at my jokes… it was infectious.
This was my moment.
It passed too fast but I knew one things for sure, I must do it again.
