When I go into work, I never really know what the shift is going to hold for me. This is one thing that I love about being a Critical Care RN. Its exciting wondering what is going to come through the door. It keeps me on my toes not knowing the problems I am going to have to help people over come.
But some days, nothing can prepare me for the craziness uniqueness of the patient themselves.
Meet Joe. He came into the hospital with chest pain and was diagnosed with a heart attack — actually, this was his second one. Also on this admission, he was diagnosed with diabetes. Joe believes that he doesn’t need medical treatment to help him with his aliments. He is going to fix them himself with his wand.
Yup, you read that correctly. Joe has a wand that he waves over his body for different amounts of time to heal himself.
This is actually his business. He has been at this for about 2 weeks and he believes that this business is going to change the world and help a lot of people. He actually told me that he offers the treatments themselves for free. That’s right, folks, these treatments are free! But the wand? That will set you back only $1300.00. I threw up a little in my mouth when he told me the price.
And the best part of this whole story is that he had his heart attack while he was using his wand to demonstrate its healing powers.
I kid you not. Something tells me that his business of selling these wands is not going to go so well after this. Oh well, maybe he can sell them for half the price as a utensil to help you reach the phone to call 9-1-1 while you are having a heart attack.

Sometimes I think…you can’t pay me enough to do this job…then somethings are just priceless

A crazier version of healing touch, huh? How ironic that he had his heart attack while demonstrating it…I’m guessing that was a tough sale.
One great thing about being a nurse: you always have some great stories to tell. Although my poor husband is sick of hearing a couple of particularly gross ones that I am often asked to repeat…poor Joe.
Have a great time this weekend! Can’t wait to hear all about it!

I couldn’t agree with you more. The stories that this job brings are priceless. Sometimes they make me cry, sometimes they make me laugh, sometimes the make me angry, sometimes they creep me out but no matter what its a great story.

Thanks for a much needed laugh this morning. The only sad part is that there are other people delusional enough to buy something like a $1300 wand.

That sounds like something that might show up on American Inventor or The Shark Tank. I hope it at least makes him feel better mentally if it’s doing nothing physically!

Huh? Crazy.
Apparently my comment was too short so I’ll just say something random. Like how Yo Gabba Gabba is on at the moment and is freaking me out.

I can’t believe that the guy actually thought he would sell that. Amazing.

Now I know in a few weeks time I am going to this as a side story on either Grey’s or Private Practice. HAHAHA. That is gold.

Wow….
That is seriously crazy! Very delusional. Did he get a psyche referral?
I’m a fellow nurse but I work in the operating rooms as a scrub practitioner, so I don’t come across much in the way of craziness – not with the patients anyway

Unfortunately, he left before he could get all the treatment he needed.
And sometimes, I think it would be nice to work in the OR. You get to send them out before the crazy takes hold.

does he carry malpractice on the wand, and if so, as the wand-seller, could he still be covered?

Hi there! I’m a fellow nurse, I clicked over here from wife.mom.nurses’s blog. This story is hilarious to me, as I had a patient a couple weeks ago tell me at work that she was going to cure her HTN with some kind of a magical rock. I explained to her the risks of uncontrolled HTN, and she told me she knew all of that, that’s why she got the rock, and she was working on it!

Shhh…don’t tell your patient, but that looks just like the wands used at Great Wolf Lodge’s magic quest. I felt like they were overpriced at $32+ but now that looks like a bargain.
