Late (Pinterest) Bloomer

by Jen on January 13, 2012

I am a late bloomer.

I played with Barbies and dolls until I was like 13.

I didn’t get my period until I was almost 15.

I didn’t kiss a boy until I was 17.

I married the first boy that asked me.

I didn’t go through a ‘rebellon stage’ until I was 30 where I wanted to get a tattoo and piercings.

The only way that I wasn’t a late bloomer was that I had all my children by the time I was 26. Of course, having three kids at once helped that but there you go.

Me being a late bloomer, is also true for things on the Internet.

Expect for twitter.

I have had my twitter account like since there was first a twitter. I didn’t do anything on it for like a year and a half because I didn’t get it and thought it was some kind of instant message system and I couldn’t figure out why these people wouldn’t talk back to me.

But for everything else in social media, I was late to jump on the bandwagon.

I started blogging 4 years ago.

I joined Facebook about 2 years ago.

I joined Skype and figured it out this year.

And just this week, I finally joined Pinterest.

Oh my goodness, Pinterest. I don’t know what took me so long. This is the most fabulous thing to happen too the Internet since Google.

I can’t believe how awesome Pinterest is. I am actually kind of mad that people didn’t tell me of it’s awesome sooner.

If I am totally confusing you and you have no idea what Pinterest is, let me tell you. Pinterest is this site where you put things that you like into boards (groups) . It is a way to organize links on the web. For example, I have this HUGE bookmark file full of recipes that I have found on the Internet. It is a long list that I get totally overwhelmed by. Since joining Pinterest, I have taken all those recipe links and organized them into different boards like, dinner, sweet treats, appetizers, etc.

For this alone, Pinterest is fabulous.

Anyway as you can tell, I am a fan. I like, no, love it. It is going to become my newest obsession. I can’t wait to spend hours upon hours pinning things.

But, even though my love is great for Pinterest I have to say, it’s not really working for me.

You see, I go through my day and I find something I like and I pin it but I am just not seeing it on my boards. Once I pin this stuff, nothing is happening.

Here let me show you.

I like my TV…. Pin It!

I like brownies, I mean really, really, really like them… Pin It! times three

I like my kid… Pin It!

I like my big tub of leduce… Pin It!

I like snow… Pin It!

I like my husband… Pin It!

I am think that I am not doing something right here. I pinned these things and they are just not showing up on my boards.

So much pinning, not so much boarding.

Oh well, maybe there is just some lag in my internet connections or a learning curve.

After all, I am a late bloomer after all.

*Follow me on Pinterest and see if  I really am getting it*

I’ve been on pinterest for awhile, but haven’t let myself get sucked in, until this week. Oye, now a whole new world is opening up, and my time is ticking away!

I joined Pinterest – but I really don’t get it – it’ll probably take me a year. I can’t figure out where I’m to go find whatever I want to pin.

The pin up your sons nose made me think of when one of my sons broke his collar bone and a little itty bitty kid in the next cubicle at the ER had stuck a Lego up his nose and they couldn’t get it out. My son and I both agreed that it was MUCH better to have a broken collar bone! LOL!

I agree with Michelle, you are a funny-clever girl! With a great sense of humor!!!!

Oh we have had the drama of little things being stuck where they shouldn’t be. Kids… what are you doing to do?! :-)

I have never had much luck with social media. I had to abandon my Twitter account because the only people who wanted to follow me were from the adult entertainment industry.

You inspired me to give social media another try with your hilarious take on Pinterest. But I can’t even get an invitation to join.

Maybe it is because I have a tendency to make “good things” go bad.

[Reply]

Jen Reply:

If you would like an invite, I could send you one because I am all about supporting social media and things.

It would be great if you could send me an invite. But you might have to keep an eye on me to make sure I stay out of trouble.

I too LOVE Pinterest!!!! Great pics of your own “pins”. Love the pic of your child with the pin up his nose. How exactly did that conversation go? “Here honey, stick this up your nose and let me take a picture. I know I’ve told you to NEVER stick anything up your nose, but just this once do it and let me take a pic!” Honestly if it were in my family the kids would just comply, roll their eyes, do it and then go about their day. Lol!

And, I’m still not on pinterest. I hear I’ll get sucked in..I don’t have time to get sucked in!
