Kids Make the Darndest Things: Unkown Art

by Jen on May 6, 2010

I enjoy all the art work that my kids make me. Their little pictures make me smile and sometimes even make me laugh. But there is a problem. Sometimes, I have no idea what I am looking at.

Hayden is pretty helpful with this. He usually has a whole story that goes along with his drawings or creations but Jake, Quinn and Claire, well they really are no help at all.

Last week, Jake, Quinn and Claire came home from school with these little creations. I had no idea what they made, so I asked them.

Claire said it was a cloud.

Quinn said it was a worm.

Jake said it was dirty dirt monster.

I guess I can see where they are coming from but I still don’t get it. You see, I think they look like little turds with eyes. But don’t get me wrong, I still think they are cute.

Kids

Ok, so know its your turn. Let’s see what your kids have made this week. Make a post showing off these awesome creations, grab the button and link up.

Okay, I can see not getting the dirt monster, but that’s obviously a worm!

Seriously, you act like your life is devoid of all construction paper invertebrates.

Do you get a little bit of attitude from them with a “duh mom” when they explain what they made? I get that from Maggie sometimes. At least most of her art work includes a rainbow, so I can always say “oh what a pretty rainbow”

I do get the attitude. When I ask, they are just look at me like, ‘you don’t know?”

I completely agree with the “cute turds” idea! LOL! Especially since that was obviously the shape the teacher cut out because they are all the same. I think it is a very interesting inside joke for the teachers! HAHAHAHA!

Lol! Yes, they are rather turd like. Now I wonder what they are really supposed to be? You have to ask the preschool teacher and find out for the rest of us :)

I love that they each have a different interpretation of their craft. Sometimes I’d love to be a fly on the wall to see both sides of the crafting experience!

Here is my question…do we have to keep all of the things that they make? Samantha brings home at least 2 things from baby school a week…and she is only 16 months old! I have everything, but this is really starting to pile up. Are there rules on what to keep? Help!

Oh sweetie, you are asking the wrong person. :)

I am terrible at throwing out their art work. I have just about every thing that Hayden and the little kids have made. I am totally running out of room. That is one of the reasons that I started this weekly meme. Now after I post on the art and save it on my computer, I get rid of it. I also have been getting rid of the papers with just one or two scribbles on them.

Its so hard but I am trying.

There are actually websites that you can upload your kids artwork to. (some require that you mail it in.) But they print it into a book. It’s a rater cute idea & i am saving my son’s various masterpieces up to do it. Parents Magazine talks about it a lot.

The interpretaion of any art is always lost on me. I have to agree that the color and shape were a poor choice if these things weren’t supposed to be poo. Have a Happy Mother’s Day.
