It is not a secret that its summer time. It is hot outside. The days are long and filled with sunshine and swimming. The kids love playing outside for hours on end. It is fabulous.
Expect for one thing,
ANTS!
I can’t stand summer time for this reason. Every single year when the weather turns warm there appears to be an open invitation in ant hills across the land for ants to descend upon our house. They are every where and I can’t see to get rid of them.
They make me feel like a bad house keeper. Well, I am a bad house keeper but I don’t want this fact rubbed in my face. I just don’t like opening up a cupboard and seeing a million ants crawling in and around my jar of molasses. I also don’t appreciate walking into the house after a long day away and looking into the sink to see two million ants feasting on a knife that has a small speck of jelly on it left over from lunch.
I don’t like ants!
I dislike them so much I spray bleach on them to watch the squirm and die from the chemicals. I want these ants to go away.
So when the little kids came home from school (aka day care) one day so excited to show me their newly made art , I tried to be excited and interested but I just couldn’t. I didn’t even fact it very well.

Ants haven’t been a problem here so far (although the kids did find one crawling around in the living room yesterday…) but we’ve had a ton of FLIES lately! It started when we had our windows replaced…but still several weeks later, they seem to have moved in permanently despite us killing 100s! agh! Ants I can handle…they are at least quiet and easy to catch…but flies? oh…THOSE bug me!

I felt the same way the other day when I was complaining about flies…and a friend of mine discovered a huge wasp nest in her kitchen walls and the wasps had eaten through the drywall and were invading the house. Suddenly flies didn’t seem so bad…

I know, I know, they are God’s creatures and all and I probably should be nice to them but I just can’t stand them in my house. I let them live outside but not in the house.

We get ants every spring and I swear by those Terro liquid ant traps. They really really work … and within days too.

I really want to put traps out but I am afraid that the kids will eat them or throw them around the house. I have tried spraying around the house but it just doesn’t work. I guess I am just going to have to break down and hire an exterminator.

We are over-run with flies in our house, to the point that i went out and bought FOUR Venus Flytraps because I can’t take it anymore. UGH
